Mystic Community Market Volunteers

The YMCA's Mystic Community Market in Medford is looking for volunteers to help with pre-packing grocery bags, stocking shelves, unloading deliveries, and distributing food both outdoors and indoors at this time to Market (food pantry) participants. There is some lifting required for any volunteer position in this program - delivery support on Thursdays and Fridays would require more lifting than others. This is a great opportunity to help feed people in need in our community in a hands-on way in a fast-paced, positive environment. The online shift selection and scheduling features are NOT in use at this time. Please email DMallard@mv-ymca.org to confirm your scheduling requests. If you are part of a group of volunteers interested in volunteering together, please contact Devin Mallard at DMallard@mv-ymca.org in advance of applying.

Greater Boston Food Bank

The Mystic Valley YMCA opened the Mystic Community Market in February 2020 in partnership with The Greater Boston Food Bank. This is a best-in-class food distribution center that places an emphasis on nutrition and community health. The Y is committed to helping end hunger in our community (Malden, Medford and Everett) by 2028 in partnership with The Greater Boston Food Bank. This would mean that all individuals in the community have reliable access to 3 nutritious meals a day. In order to help achieve this goal, we are open 6 days a week and distribute free groceries and free grab-and-go breakfast and lunch for children for 2 hours each day out in front of our YMCA. Anyone can register to receive groceries one time a week. In 2020, there was a staggering increase in the demand for food resources due to the economic impact of COVID-19. The Malden YMCA Market is one of 3 food pantries we operate which together received and distributed over 2 million pounds of food to over 100,000 individuals in the past year.
